Running with radiator cap off...
should air be blowing out of the radiator? My other cars have different cooling systems, what is normal on a 5.0? When I run the car with the cap off (was checking for bubbles, there was none and didn't seem to be any water movement either) air blows out at a pretty good rate. Its like standing in front of a fan. This is all with the car started cold of course.
I have heard of "burping" the system, is this needed in my case? If so, how would I do that?

I assume you mean coming out of the front of the car.The fan on the 5.0 is reverse rotation.Make sure you have the correct fan on your car.The factory style clutch fan cracks pretty regularly, but can only be improved on with an electric conversion.Stay away from aftermarket non-clutch metal fans as they suck power and are very noisy. Most aftermarket electric fans will not fit the 91 if you have a cobra type thicker radiator. As far as bleeding the air, leave the radiator cap off until fully warmed up.If you have overfilled the radiator a little spillage will occur as the thermostat opens, this is normal.Since the cap is higher than the thermostat it should bleed the air out by itself.Keep an eye on the overflow tank for a few days.I personally like to drill a 1/8" diameter hole in the outside ring of the thermostat itself to bleed air as I put coolant in but most replacements allready have that.

Thanks for the info on bleeding the system,
As far as the blowing, its not the fan that I'm talking about. Air is pushing out of the radiator neck. I took the cap off, started the car, and you can feel air blowing from the radiator opening (where the cap screws onto). I wanted to know if this was normal or if it meant there was excess air in the system or maybe something else?

Yeh, a steady stream of air coming out of the radiator is not normal, is there any variance to the air or is it steady? Really, if there were air coming out of the radiator, there should be bubbles in the coolant... Does it do this before the thermostat opens up?
