Default 3:73s and a rebuilt rear end are basically way awesome

Got my car back at about 4 o clock today, new axel shafts, rebuilt posi, all new bearings, and 3:73 gears and it basically kicks massive ***.
Drove the car around for about 100 miles to break them in before i really got on it but, now the car is way more fun with the gears. Anyone who was thinking about getting them, i highly recommend it. It definitely pulls a lot harder in pretty much every gear, and now when i hit it at 15 or 20 it starts spinning the tires then chirps it into 2nd pretty much every time.

The axel shafts were expensive, 175 a piece. I ordered the 3:73s, a trac lock rebuild kit, and a ring and pinion install kit off gefracing.com for 265. So i gave them the 3:73s, trac lock, and ring and pinion install kit to put in. Plus they put in synthetic oil and a master bearing kit. So it ended up being a lot, 950 at the shop, plus the 260 off the internet. If you plan to just install gears its only like 275 or 300 for the labor though. I highly recommend the 3:73s, if you go 4:11s or higher, you cant really go on freeway for very long. From what ive seen so far at 80mph with 3:73s its at about 2700 or 2800. So if you plan to get gears lower than that, don't plan on doing much highway driving.

Yes that is a bit of money...........

You should never get into the 4x4 realm it cost me around 2800 to have my truck regeared to 4.56's with Eaton Selectable Lockers.
Now the front Axle is getting cut out and a freshly geared Dana 44 is going under there.
Now I have a stang to regear and rebuild as well [:-]

Rebuilding four axles in a year is spendy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe it or not, that was the cheaper shop too. The other shop near my house wanted about 1,500.

If you are going to be driving the car daily go with the 3.73s. If its a weekend car or you are going to be racing go with the 4.10s. I have 3.73s on my car and you can really tell the difference.

It usually just chirps them cause my tires are fairly new. With one person in the car it chirps them pretty hard but still does it pretty good with 2 people in the car.
