Default oil residue in the intake runners....

I recently saved an 89 GT from the scrapyard.... after some minor fixes, I have it running... body is solid, gonna build a junkyard dragster! Lol! I'm working on eliminating most of the accessories on the front of the engine to free up some HP... I pulled the plenum and noticed a coating of oil in the intake holes..... the car didn't smoke.... it has an off-road h pipe with flowmaster muffler... the smog pump was still hooked up... any ideas? Does it sound like a blockage somewhere?

Thanks...... jason...

I pulled my upper this weekend and noticed the same thing. My car has other issues so I'm not sure if this would be normal or not.

Anyone know a good way to clean this all out?

from when i pulled mine apart i had oil which is why you have a filter on the pcv valve to keep oil from getting into it i would say a little is normal if you are getting alot get a catch can to keep oil from getting oil in the intake

Oil in the intake runner, as in the cylinder head?

Maybe bad valve stem seals? Might be time to freshen up those old heads, but if I were going to do that I think I'd freshen up a set of GT40's instead.

you sure it is not fuel? You can go to a junkyard or pick almost any car running up the road, pull the plenum off and they will have black build-up from fuel.

Steeda makes a oil seperator installs from pcv to intake.

usually, on older vehicles especially, there will build a slight bit of oil in the intake thanks to the PCV. Oil vapors run through the system and build up where it goes back in the engine. Normally it'll be mixed with some carbon because of the fuel that runs through, it's just a good reason to clean your intake once in a while along with the PCV system itself, but if you are finding anything more than a small layer you probably have an actual issue

make sure it isnt actually fuel, my 95 did the same thing, but upon closer examination it was fuel not oil...
