Default gears and axles

I bought a rear end with 373 and a posi that came from a ranger at a swap meet and it was suppose to fit my 88 gt so I got a guy to put it in for me and he said my axles r to small they just spinned in the rearend so I figure it has to be for 31 spline axles Caz there is only to types of axles that came in a 8.8 right? And my is how do u tell what axles fit the diff and if it is 31 spline axles what do I need exactly to change my car from 28 to 31?

count the splines in the carrier, but it should be a 31 spline. So you will need new axles that are 31 spline.

also ranger axles , you can only use one side, so make sure they gave you the proper side if spline count in diff corresponds

+1 LOL but another note the higher spline axles will have a greater diameter also. If its a 31 and you put your stock 28 in its not going to engage the carrier teeth.

Im assuming you're lookin to hold onto your 4 lug set up, if you are you may need to convert to 5 lug to get this axle to work properly, I'm not 100% sure but I don't think they made 31 spline 4 lug axle shafts
