bad to not use belt tensio
Yup that's bad. As the belt wears it will get looser and the tensioner will take up the slack of the streching belt. That and it will ensure the proper tension on the belt to begin with.</P>
If you can't get the tensioner on then the belt might be to small. But you usually do not remove the tensioner from the car. A socket and a rachet on the nut in the center of the idler pully should allow you to release the tension on the belt. You will have to play with the direction of the rachet to do this. That and loosen your alternater. You shouldn't use the alternator to take up the slack on the belt either.</P>

well i might need a new tensioner then, there is a bolt that goes through the center and through the bracket screw hole, with a nut on the back...the only way to get a socket in there is to take the bolt out, thus removing the tensioner.
or i dont know what the hell im doing... <img border="0" src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>bmorrisj</editID><editDate>37960.1121875</editDate></edited>
