Default piston and ring

Just took the motor apart n the ring on piston 5 (just the top ring) was broken in alot of pieces. What could cause that? Also the piston is scratch between the top n the first ring. Is it still a good piston

Sounds like that piston is history.
A lot of things could have caused the ring to break.
Is this the only one like that?

Coulda broken from excessive wear, crappy oil, most likely bad tune.

The lands are quite possibly bad as well.
