Default Idle Question

Hey all,

I have what is hopefully a simple question but a bit of history first. I have a '94 GT convertible, basically stock. It ran good, but was really hard to start (10 seconds on the starter before it would fire). I tried to adjust the timing but found out the balancer had slipped. So, changed the balancer and the distributor (it was squeking really bad), set the base timing at 13 degrees. The car ran great, but the idle suddenly got low (550RPM's). It would sound like it was going to stall but never did. Cleaned the IAC valve, it helped but not enough. So, I disconnected the battery, replaced the IAC Valve, retimed it, and tried again.

Long story short, I think I advanced the timing too much and need to back it off some, but it STILL idles at about 525 RPM's. Since I replaced the IAC it idles smoother and doesn't sound like it's going to stall, but is still way lower than I think it should be (in gear with foot on the brake). I;ve been told to adjust the TPS voltage, but everything I've read says the TPS's on the 94 & 95 zero themselves out at start up, so I can't see how that would help.

Would a base idle reset help, or should I look in another direction?

Thanks in advance.

You tps dosent 0 itself! Check it and make sure its around and less than 1v with the koeo, i set mine to .998v you will need a DMM to check for the voltage! If its the original tps you might wanna change it hold it to wot and you should get 4.9v if you hvae the patience hook up the dmm and go thru the throttle cycle and make sure you dont have a dead spot in the sensor, have you changed the fuel filter plugs wires etc.

Yes, the fuel filter, pump, wires, plugs, distributor and IAC Valve have all been changed, and the MAF has been cleaned as well.

I noticed you are in cali, so you have the egr still on the car, check codes and see if the egr is functional and working properly!
