Default Help Please With Tranny

Hello Guys im having trouble with my 85 mustang L with a 5.0 liter and a borgwarner T-5. The problem im having is first gear wont go in like theres no gear there,

Except from a go when im driving at about 20 MPH and downshift into 1st it goes in fine and stays there intill its takin out. ?is this the clutch line the clutch or just my tranny?

I dont want to think its the tranny and go get it rebuilt and have the same problem. Thanks for your time guys and if you have any questions ill be checking all night and tomarow.

THANKS!
P.S if it helps theres a clutch smell everytime I get on it and it slips sometimes. All other gears Work perfectly. and the tranny does make a lil bit of grinding noises like a brake drum.
