Default Why called a fox?

Quick question....kinda stupid
My friend asked me the other day how Fox bodies got the name Fox. I had no idea, and neither does anyone else I've asked. Now I'm kinda stuck on the question. Anyone able to give me an answer?

You know how Camaros/Firebirds etc.. are called F-bodies? Well, the Mustang is also called an F-body according to the parts catalog at work. Now that I think of it, Ford probably called it the Fox chassis when they were first coming out, kind of like they call the new '05 chassis the Dew chassis. I don't know...

Yeah its the chassis/platform name. Ford built other cars based on the Fox platform (not sure which models) - but thats why they call it a Fox body.

99 to 04 are new edge [reworked fox]
94 to 98 are Sn95 [another reworked fox]
79 to 93 are foxes

granadas, fairmonts, thunderbirdss, cougars, lincoln LSC all are on the fox chassis. just with minor alterations
