Question No key start after trans swap? 89' 5.0 GT

I recently swapped a good 85' T5 for the bad 89' T5 in my current car. The only difference between the two was the neutral safety plug was different. I left the plug on the T5 hanging and then connected the 2 wires inside the neutral safety plug coming from the car (which I read is a work around).

It will not fire from the key but I can pop the clutch or start it from the engine bay.

I am very confused as to what is going on. Anyone have idea?

Thanks

The small wire running into the solenoid does not get power when I turn the key, I tested it with a multi-meter, I give it power by running a screw driver on it to the positive connection (on the solenoid), that is how I start the car.
