Default Dipstick necessary?

I was workin on my car today fixin an oil leak and found the dip stick had come off its mount. I pulled it out like an idiot and cant find how to put it back in, nor can I find the hole to put it in. Do I have to put it back? Does anyone know where the whole to the oil pan is on the 88gt? thanks for you help

Do you know which header exactly?</P>


and what angle about its at so I can feel around for it. Its really hard for me to get under there, its lowered</P>

Well since it's a hole that goes directly into your oilpan, I'd seriously consider putting it back on. Not only do you run the risk of oil gushing out, but you also need to worry about water and other contaminates splashing up and running in.

I finally got it, it was a pain to get. I tried running around the block to see what happened and while i started driving I realized, "hmm oil pressure would be nice" So I quickly turned back home with oil burning off the headers that got spatted on. But its fixed and everythings good now... Answer = YES, you need at least the hole covered.</P>

If it was that loose it might have been your oil leak. Glad it's fixed.

Ya Im hoping that was it, im gonna find a way to get it in there permanently cause If I pull on it, it will still come right out. Any idea on how to keep it there???</P>

put some silicone on it and reinsert it in the hole
