A ball joint press you find the right size cup that will fit on the top of the spindle without touching the control arm, then find a larger cup to go on the underside to fit on the control arm without touching the ball joint. Then simply press the ball joint down, and reverse the method to put the new one in. It can be a little tricky and you may have to stop and double check your progress a few times

The ball joint press I have, i rented from autozone, and the description doesn't say to do it as such... It's telling me to use only one cup, on the bottom, and the assembly doesn't fit. I have a control arm I bought off of 50resto a couple years ago.. stock control arm with sealed 94' bushings... installed on my 90' mustang...

Are these ball joints even meant to come out?
Do I have the wrong ball joint press/releaser?

I ended up taking the lower control arm off and letting my mechanic press it in and out... Good choice... because he said the ball joint was damaged and he had to play around with it before he could press it out... otherwise the arm would have gotten damaged.
