Default loud clunking sound from rear end?

So i just bought a 91 notch a few days ago which seems to have a pretty build drivetrain and suspension, stock motor. Parts that may help assess my situation.

-moser full spool
-31 spline axles
-3.73 gear
-driveshaft loop
-aluminum driveshaft

Been driving the car fine through the weekend and running errands today when i downshifted to slow down and somethings not right now. What happens is, starts off fine through 1st to 15mph then into second it starts making this real loud clanking sound, like metal on metal, real violent.

Did something get knocked out of place in the rear end or whats going on here?

Well seems like my winter project will be starting a little early, was hoping to get some road time in before the weather shifted...

What happened was previous owner didnt tighten the lug nuts enough and i snapped 2/4 studs on my axels, im thinking thats what the problem was as i opened my door and saw my tire wobbling around like crazy.

So now the question is what would be the best way around this? considering....

-i would be interested in a 5 lug conversion very soon
-not a big fan of the spool lock
-building a motor this winter so looking cost effective
-keep the 3.73 gear or other recommendations?

What kind of advice do you guys have for me

Definitely do the 5 lug conversion
Keep the 3.73's they are aggressive and great for strip or street. i have 4.10s in my car and wish i has 3.73s my rpms are to high in 5th.
while doing the axle swap you are going to have to pull the differential cover off obviously but while you have them out i would just swap in the standard limited slip differential that came in the cars. Buy differential rebuild kit that has new clutch disks so you have the posi traction you want when you want to lay the power down.

Hope this helped.

The 5 lug conversion is only handy if you don't already have nice wheels and want to widen your selection. In a racers POV, keeping the 4 lug is a plus, less time spent getting the wheel off and on.
