Default low idle and surge at start up and park

Recently had a 3G alternator installed on my 93 5.0.
When it first starts in the morning from being in the drive way all night, it starts fine no problems. Take it to work, put it in park, the idles dips so low to the point it wants to cut out, it did once but luckily i was parked.

Also, When I start it after driving it around a bit the idle is low until I put it in drive and it kicks up again. The voltage meter also dips when it first starts after being in park then it goes back up.

If i make a couple mini trips the voltage reads lower and lower every single time. About a notch below half way after 3 start ups and stops within an hour.

Could it be a bad voltage regulator not charging it properly or something else?

Thanks.

It does sound like your battery isn’t being recharged. However, don’t rely on the battery meter in the dashboard. Use a volt-meter or multi-meter. It may be a bad battery. When they start going bad they often stop holding a charge. Start the car and check the voltage at the battery. It should be between 13.2 & 15 volts at idle. If it is, then the charging system is fine and its most likely the battery. Any less and the battery isn’t be recharged. Good luck...

Your battery probly has diminished capacity , meaning that it will no longer hold a charge for long and or it will no longer complete a full 12 volts of charge It may only hold 11.5 volts . This will cause the voltage regulator in the alt to crank the output of the alt up causing excess resistance to the engine. If the battery tests good and your getting the correct voltage from the alt then I would think a base Idle relearn might solve your problem , If the car was just recently upgraded to the 3g conversion it should have had a base idle relearn done to it because the new 3g alt is going to be outputting a lot more amps causing a bit more parasitic drain on the engine. This extra resistance on the engine will cause it to idle lower because the computer needs to relearn the idle settings using the new alt .

reset idle then tps...after you check volts while running
