Default Gas stinging eye while driving

guys I have a minor issue....well hopefully its minor...its always a coincidence that when my gas tank is about 1/4 tank it starts to reak like rotten gas and it stings my eyes too BUT only when I floor or when I'm hard on the gas peddle. What do you think might be the issue.

I was thinking maybe the gas tank has dirt buildup in the tank itself, dirty pump filter.

Don't really know what rotten gas smells like. To me it sounds like you have a bad exhaust leak. More than likely in/near the engine bay or under the passenger cabin.

sorry, I used the term "rotten" cuz that was the only way I could describe the nasty smell. there are no leaks in the exhaust. it only happens when the tank is at about 1/4 tank. if its over a 1/4 tank it doesn't smell. I don't know if its the pump is having trouble picking up sufficient gas to feed the car or there isn't a good air/fuel mixture. it smells like if i have an open gas container inside the cabin. (maybe thats a better description)

If the pump couldn't pick up gas to feed the car you wouldn't have the proper flow/pressure and would lose power.

Check the charcoal canister and check the lines connecting it to the gas tank as well as to the intake manifold and make sure they are intact. They recycle fuel vapor from the fuel tank to slightly improve fuel mileage as well as reduce emissions.

I checked the charcoal canister and checked the lines connecting it to the gas tank, the intake gaskets had been recently changed out about a month ago. The canister and lines are good. no leaks. still having the awkward smell.
