5.0 Swap 92 Notch 2.3
Alright so I've pretty much done everything I can think of to my 92 coupe over the last couple years. I believe it is now finally time to drop a v8 in it.

Not to sure where to start...I plan on pulling a motor from either a 5.0 explorer, a 5.0 f150, or a newer body mustang from LKQ. I plan on rebuilding the motor mostly. But what is the best way to go? What is the easiest way with the quickest time and most direct swap? I know I need the complete motor its self, a bell housing to fit my t5, flywheel, clutch, computer, and some of the wiring harness? Can some one list the exact parts need for this swap? I very seriously doubt there is a full 87-93 5.0 mustang sitting up there for the easiest swap ever so im going with any other 5.0 ford I can find. |
do you still ahve the ROH wheels ? it looks great but im curious how it would look as a silver car + the ROH's
look for a totalled 5.0, then you'll have plenty of extra parts too, thats one easy way i have not looked at this...i just googled 2.3 to 5.0 swap and took the link of the first one that was done by a magazine cuz i felt it was most detailed http://www.mustang50magazine.com/tec...p/viewall.html if your on a budget...id consider a stock block 302, turn it into a 306 with fresh heads and forged internals you should happy with what you end with. 300 hp is a easy attainable goal and should run mid 12's if you still need more...spray 100 on it and go 11's personally i would NOT use a non HO motor from a truck or anything else. nor would i use a gt40p motor from an explorer also what t5 do you have ? from the 2.3 motor ??? cuz a world class t5 from a V8 car is a little different and much stronger as well |
Also, you said you have a decent rear gear set-up. What rear end do you have?
|
Its a 7.5. Everyones been telling me Ill be better off changing it to 8.8 but isnt necessary to just get it up and running
|
Color Im going for after 5.0 swap is complete.

I like the grey better. Nothing shows off like a mustang that can actually perform. Mechanicals before showing off in my opinion.

What you guys think on that mark vii? $800 prob get him to lower at little... get what I need out of it and crush the body to get $300 back |
Find out how many miles on the engine. Might want to run a compression test on it before you drive it home. LOL
Might want to go through the motor a little when you get it out of the donor. New gaskets, main seals, general cleaning, maybe a valve job. Best to take care of that while its not in a car as a little insurance. |
My $800 parts car im picking up Wednesday. A 1990 Lincoln Mark VII with a 5.0 HO.
http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...e0192f1054.jpg http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...afed2f1bfd.jpg http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...a400c81afd.jpg http://i820.photobucket.com/albums/z...90ed421c90.jpg I believe this car has a 8.8 rear end but it is a tad bit longer then the foxs. I think it only stick out like half a inch on each side so itll match my front SN95 5 lug spindles. I have a question about my options for a transmission though...I have a factory 4 cylinder T5 in my car right now. I know the bellhousing are different, but most people are telling me the 4cylinder family t5 wont last long behind the 5.0 so what are my options? I know the best bet is to find a t5 from a 5.0 gt but no luck with finding one in my area. I know the 94-95 5.0 t5 you have the cut either your driveshaft or either change the pilot bearing and all that, sounds like more trouble then thats worth. What other options do I have? |
Change the input shaft on the 4 cylinder t5 and get an upgrade kit for the internals. If you can't do it have someone else rebuild it. Good to go.
