A manual is more fun but to actually go fast at the drag strip an auto is the way to go. I dont care how good you can shift a well built auto can do it faster and never misses a shift.

Sure, I can buy that. It costs a bit in the form of power loss, but if the car is a track beast, go for it. Driving it on the street, though, I'll stick to what makes me grin. LOL Who wants to take the human element out of driving? Just a matter of time before someone invents an automatic steering wheel that can do it better, faster, and more consistently than we can...

If you have traction mods, and run slicks and powershift it down the track all day, not very long... Otherwise, it'll do fine. Plus its a piece of cake to rebuild.

the only traction mods I have are Lower control arms and a brand new 8.8 traction lok rebuild kit.

I only plan on seeing the track a few times a year(3 or 4 at most), the car is more of a street daily driver than weekend warrior.

On the street, it will be fine. On the strip it depends on how you shift it. If you intend on going for every last 10th, I'd rather you went with a stronger tranny, or a swap of the internals on the T-5 to make it stronger. A T-5 in stock form just won't last too long on the track. If you're going to the trouble of switching to manual, might as well put the extra money into it at the start.

What kind of stuff could I buy for the 5 speed to make it a bit beefier?

the super alloy kit that D&D makes is about it for upgrades...it's $400 alone

if you stay away from 5k launches your fine on a t5

you try and launch hard a lot on a full slick and you'll break it though

ive had good and bad luck both with t5's

my 1989 with the original trans held up to launching on a 100 shot and running mid 12's for four years and no issues whatsoever. it got stolen so i have no idea long it woulda held out for.

now ive broken 3 in the last 2 years, but i DO abuse them
