Default Question after 86 5.0 refresh

Hey guys, I have an 86 5.0 engine that I'm putting in an 85 GT. The motor has low miles but was sitting in a garage for a long time. I tore the motor down and it showed very little wear so I honed the cylinders, cleaned it and put in new bearings. I kept the pistons in order so they went back into the proper cylinders. The Chilton manual says that the notch in the piston points to the front of the block. There is no notch on these pistons. There is a small round indentation in the top of the pistons. Does this point to the front or does it matter? Also, I spaced the ring gaps 180 degree's from each other. Again, the manual shows different. Thanks for any help.
