Default no charge..? Again...

well i was driving in some heavy rain yesterday to work and 1 block away from work my car died at the light! Was using blinker, wipers, and corner lights at that time. Car has new alternator and batt. i did notice a burning smell right before it shut off. Opened hood and smell was coming from the plug at the alternator.., (the bigger one not the small plug). Weird part is that when i would get a jump the car starts up right away but as soon as i disconnect jumper cables car dies..? Iv had this problem before but looks like everytime i have the battery charged at A/Z sucker lasts me for about 2/3 weeks before car does what its doing..! Any ideas and also sorry for the story here!

Yep, from what I understand the tabs will relax and make poor contact and could cause arcing. Really a crap design by ford. The dying once cables were removed is because the alt was no longer able to put out a charge and your car was running right off the feed from the other car.

Oh and I don't recommend a junk yard plug, try finding a new one or if you feel up for it try the 3g swap, its really quite simple to do.

The burned plug means your car WAS attempting to charge. Look it up in the tech articles sticky

replacing the plug would be a little easier, but you would eliminate this kind of issue from happening again with the 3g swap and will be able to run more accessories.
