Clutch Change in a 91 Mustang
I'm looking at buying a 1991 Mustang from a co-worker, and was wondering how daunting of a task a clutch change on it was. I was pitched a pretty decent deal. It's a manual transmission. I wouldn't say I'm a mechanic, but I own a 1996 Audi A4 and have swapped out CV Axles, cosmetic parts, the steering rack, etc. Just looking for a little advice from the forum.

Clutch is easy if you have lift access. On your back, which I have done a few times, just requires a bit of shoulder strength. Just take the shift boot off, driveshaft off, unbolt a few bolts, speedometer cable, a harness or two and the whole thing comes out.
Get new flywheel and pressure plate bolts... inspect the flywheel and see if it needs machined/replaced... use an alignment tool to get it all back together and you are good.
On a lift it would take about an hour. On the ground it takes about 2-3.

2 hours if you spray all the exhaust bolts bolts down with pb blaster before hand.... and dont need to resurface the flywheel
3 hours if you need to resurface the flywheel
thats with jack stands, a skateboard and no air tools

But does he have a close shop that is willing to drop what they are doing and throw it on a lathe? I know it can be put on the lathe and they can walk away/go back to what they are doing, but they may already have something on said lathe.

... so you wait another 10 minutes for them to finish whatever rotors/drums/flywheel they're working on. Not like turning something on a lathe takes that long.
