convertible top not locking?

convertible top not locking?
Today I put down the top on my 91 mustang gt that I bought about a week ago and the top went down fine but when I put it back up the right side locks in place but the left side the little metal hook that hangs and locks into the hole misses the hole and wont lock and when im driving the top is making all kinds of loud noises now since its not locked in place. It looks like the issue may be that the little hook isn't hanging as far down as the hook on the other side of the car...what's weird is they were locked in place fine before I put the hook down
Anybody know what's wrong and how to fix it?

Your problem is the top frame. A bushing has worn down in one of the joints and is causing the frame to collapse a bit as it's going back up, making it come up short when you go to lock it. Assisting the top with your arms as it's coming up should be a "fix", short of replacing the frame.
