Default vortec springs on gt40P+ a preload question

machine shop is going over my JY gt40Ps and says they look great.

He's going to run vortec valve springs in em that will be enough for .550 lift.

Ever heard of that?? He's prolly sellin what he already has from a cracked head or something. 53 dollars and 34 for keepers.

He said for the minor resurfacing, i dont need new pushrods. heads werent bad.

how do I check lifter preload, in short. im reading on this as we speak, but itll be the first time for me so advice is appreciated.
