Default 89Gt oil on spark plugs

gents,

I was going through my electrical/charging systems after picking up this project within the last few months. After i tested the batt., alt, and replaced the starter i changed the plugs. cylinder 5 and 8 both had oil and charred oil on the threads and surrounding the base of the electrode. I am planning to perform a compression test to see if it is the rings, but a friend said it might be the head gasket or the valve seals.

I checked the coolant and oil and i didnt see any real noticeable mixture/ milkyness. my question is what should my steps be in determining the problem, and is this a time where the top end will need to come apart and i should think about doing a rebuild?

any advice/ideas are welcomed, I am not very knowledgeable on this subject of how the oil gets to the plugs.

wrong plugs for your car
your probably have bad valve seals/guides/rings. Any one or combination.
You likely have a stuck PCV which is sucking oil into your upper intake.

Solution: Install Autolite 25 plugs, run a full compression and leak down test, replace PCV valve and oil screen.

Thanks to all so far.
Adder: I was switching out for the Autolites when i found the oil. these were the plugs installed when i picked up the car. I will search for a thread on PCV valve and switch that one out, and run a compression test once i can get one from an auto store. i will keep posted.
Adder, what do you think of an additive like MJR suggests?

MJR was more likely joking. That amount of oil on the plugs, you have a sealing issue somwhere, whether it be rings or valve seals.

i thought so, well i pulled the PCV valve while im debating just buying a compression gauge rather than continue waiting to rent one. the valve is a motorcraft and is still rattling. the screen as pictures below is pretty dirty bottom side. I tried to spray out the screen (no avail) and it probably just needs replacing. no dripping oil from pcv line either.

Hose it with easy off oven cleaner, take a toothbrush to it, then shoot it with the hose. Wear gloves, and watch the brush doesnt sling the crap in your eye. I did it inside of a mostly sealed ziplock, which served as gloves and eye/clothes protection all at once.

sorry , couldn't resist...been waiting to post that pic for a while........you can do one of two things op.....rebuild it or run a hotter plug to burn the oil...don't use platnuims, use a standard copper core resistor plug, such as an autolite and monitor oil consumption to find out how much it uses.
