Installing speedo gear on 94 5.0.....
I put 3:73 gears in my car and I had to order the speedo gear special from steeda, and now its here. I called the driveline shop and they said they could put it in for 25 dollars. Is it fairly easy to install, if so I was wondering if I could just do it myself.

Im wanting to correct my speedo also... I think I have a 3.55 but im not sure.. It might be a 3.73 but it doesnt pull hard enough for a 3.73. Does any one know where I can find out what exact gear I have and where can i order the speedo gear.

The place to order the speedo gear would be http://www.steeda.com/
I just got back from the shop, they installed the speedo gear for 25 dollars. Now at 80 my car is only at 2600rpm.
I think you could check what gears you have by pacing someone. With 3:73s without the new gear at 90 mph, i was only going 65 mph. If it has 3:55s im guesssing the speed change wont be as dramatic, you could try doing it that way.

you do thave to tear it down, you jsut have to take the drive shaft off, speedometer off, crossmember off. the tailhousing bolts and you pull out the gear that is on the shaft... IMO ive done it a couple fo times at my dads transmission shop and i wouldnt wanna do it on the floor. just spend the 25 bucks for them to do it.

brown, can we get a step by step on that? I know it's easy and you don't have to do all of that to the tranny - black89 HAD to be talking about the drive gear. That is a bizznatch to replace. But the speedo gear is zip pop snap. I just got my 23 tooth whitey for my 3:73's.
Ck9887, go to eBay and search - that's where I found mine. Aw heck, I'll do it for ya

p diddy ,
so you saying when you changed your stock gear to a 3.73 . at an actual speed of 65mph ,you speedo was ready 90 ?
I just swapped my stock 3.08 to 3.73 . For some reason, i thought that going with bigger gear will reduce the speedometer reading . more like reading 50mph at an actual speed of 65.
any input ?
