Removing Emissions Stuff

Can you pull out the EGR, thermactor, air pump, etc. by capping, plugging, etc. without buying the EGR delete spacer (just cap the lines) or the air pump delete idler pulley (just use a different accessory belt)? Will the ECU do anything detrimental to performance or driveability with all the sensors, idlers, actuators, etc. unplugged?
