Default oil consumption

Hello, I am fairly new to the mustang world. I just got a 1992 Mustang LX 5.0 It is in great condition. I have an issue with my oil being consumed. I am almost positive that its being burned but I dont see any blue smoke. there is never any oil on the ground. I dont know what more information I need to give to you, just ask and I will tell. Thanks for the help!!!

A lot of high mileage 5.0s burn oil. My car has 138k and it seems to burn around a quart a month. Its not usually a huge deal, as long as you watch it and add oil occassionally the motor could last much longer. A guy I know from New Jersey bought a 5.0 with 140k that burned oil, and it still runs great at 165k.

Yeah one of my friends has a 90 GT that has 266,000 on the original motor but that also uses almost 3 quarts a month haha

what you have is blow by....if you see no smoke It can't be burning.....just use a heavy oil to slow it down till you have a chance to rebuild

its probably your rear main seal has gone bad bc your not burning oil and the rear seal is a weak point from the factory bc its a 2 peice seal. I would jack up the car and try to see if there is oil in your bellhousing if so replace the rear main seal with a fel-pro 1 peice rubber gasket

I was wondering about that............mine makes no smoke at all, and it doesn't leak. How much does the rear main seal cost, and how much does it cost to install it?

well let's look at what 2002 said....rear seal leaking...means it's leaking and oil will be on the ground...like I said you have blow by
