Default Fuel Pump (I think) question

I have a loud whine coming from what sounds like the gas tank. The whine gets louder as you rev the motor.. any suggestions?

R&R? Another question. LRS didn't have any stock FF the last time I looked. Would it mess something up if I went with a performance pump? Cars stock right now.

R&R, remove and replace. FF Motorcraft are available at most parts house. Most will recomend a 255lph pump.

No one tied together the fact that the whine shouldn't change with engine speed? All pumps whine, thats how you know they're working. I think the pump is fine, I think it's a voltage issue.

Can you give me the quick and dirty on what might cause a voltage problem?

Bad regulator on the alternator, bad ground to the pump, corroded power connection. Variations in the whine indicate a not-so-strong connection to the power or ground source.

A whine is subjective. It can be good or bad. It all depends on how pronounced it is, and what the output pressure is at.

It has gotten louder since I've owned the car. Started off as a low whine and now its louder than the exhaust. If I'm going to drop the tank I guess I might as well replace the pump. Most of the things on the car are original, I wouldn't doubt if the pump is as well. The ALT is new, so I'll check the grounds when I drop the tank. Thanks again.
