Default Oil pump drive shaft?

Hi all. I'm in the middle of my rebuild and have a question. Does the oil pump drive shaft float freely in the distributor hole or is there supposed to be a bushing to hold it in place? Dont want to button things up and find out im missing something. Heres a pic of how the engine sits as of today. I know it's a little crazy to have the headers on but it's so much easier to put them on while the heads are off the car.

There should be a retaining washer to prevent it from dropping into the pan, but aside from that it just sits there. Should be quite a snug fit in the pump and distributor.

Ok thanks. Yes it's a very tight fit in the pump seat. Just wanted to be 100% sure. First time I've done an oil pump.
