Default Confused with block

Ok I'm helping a buddy of mine with the motor for his stang. He picked up a 87 5.0 which was out of a stang. we started tearing the motor down. The casting number for the block is E7TE. The cam is a roller it has the girdle and the dog bones for the lifters. It also had E6SE heads on it. The pistons are flat top with no dish or relief's. Ok I was allways told that TE was a truck block, and the truck block's were non-roller. how can I tell if it is all forged bottom end. Also can we put forged pistons with relief's in it.

The only 5.0 block to come stock without valve reliefs were 86 blocks.

I double checked the casting number and it says E7TE.. That casting number does mean a 87 Truck Block.. Is it possible it could be a early year 87 that had 86 pistons put in it..

Yes that is possible, very common for left overs to be used on next years cars with many manufacturers. Either way either throw that engine away or buy pistons with reliefs.
