Default New to a mustang

I just bought my first mustang. It's a 1990 Mustang Cobra GT fox body style. my headlights dont work on dim my running tail lights work jut not my brake lights. and when my battery is left hooked up it drains it. any ideas? Also when in OD it wants to rev up high rpms at about 45 mph and not go any faster.

Well, welcome Katie, sorry your new purchase is giving you problems. Your headlights not working could be your hi/low switch, wiring connections, or check the bulbs themselves,

For your brake lights, crawl under dash by your brake pedal, you will see a little switch that moves when you step on pedal, make sure wires are connected and switch is adjusted.

Actually, never mind, those are your small problems. Sounds like your tranny is junk, check your fliud. If it has a burnt smell to it, and not bright red, find a good, reputable tranny shop check it out. Sorry. Good luck.

You from the great white north? U.S. did not make a Cobra in 1990.

I live in ga and the title itself says cobra gt on it. idk. but I got the lights to work finally every bulb was blown... weird. but the popping in the rear end was the wheels were loose. but still having issue with battery draining really quick and the transmission not wanting to work right. The tranny fluid is that bright red color and smells like normal tranny fluid.

If the RPM climbs and the speed stays the same. Sounds like the clutch is worn out. When the power from the engine overcomes the clutch's ability to grab the flywheel... then the RPM's go up and the tranny doesn't go anywhere.

Wait... is this an auto or standard?

Cobra came out in 93'. You have a regular GT.

If it's revving up and not increasing speed then your torque converter or tranny has an issue. My money is on torque converter.
