Under drive pully help?
I just ordered an under drive pully kit, and I've been reading that they aren't so hot? I have a basicly stock 89 5.0 and I do have a sterio (2 12 inch subs with an 880w amp.) and I'm a little worried that my car won't cool or charge well with the kit. Keep in mind this car is basicly my daily driver in the summer. This is the kit I ordered: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...sory-Drive-Kit
Anyone have advice? Thanks!

they will make a very slight difference, but you probably wont feel it. The stock alts aren't very strong at charging anyway, but I went ahead and tried some out on my car and have had no cooling issues and I autocross my car. As for charging, I did a 3g upgrade and pulleys or not it has no issues charging. The crank and water pump pulleys are easy to get on, but if you do intend to install the alt pulley you need an impact and for someone to hold the pulley still.

Pullies can net about 10hp, which is enough to notice. I've run them for many years, and have noted two effects: 1) with the headlights on, at idle, my voltage goes down, and the headlights dim a little (meaning the battery is discharging a little), and 2) in hot weather, during extended periods of idle, e.g. traffic jam going no where, the engine temperatures will slowly climb. I've never had any issues from the headlights/alternator, but have had to shut the engine down a couple times over the years from getting hot while sitting in a traffic jam. I just rebuilt my engine, and bought new underdrive pullies, I think they're worth it (though as stangman33 suggested, I also did not install the alternator pulley).

Usually it will get to the line just below the red line before it cools back down to the middle of the gauge. But I read that's about normal on another post. And it doesn't run that hot all the time just occasionally. But my engine is stock right now but I plan on rebuilding it and putting on gt-40p heads with an e303 cam. That's about as "built" as it will get with some bolt ons like the pullys and a bbk cold air intake.
