So the grinding is still going on when I start the car, like a little high pitched grinding only when you start it cold. And my buddy said that it's the inner mechanism in the starter, and I thought he said throw out bearing. I can't see how the throwout bearing that people normally speak of (on the clutch) would cause grinding at the start only when it's cold out. If it did it every time, then it would be more suspicious, but it would also make noise when I use the clutch every time. Anyway, the starter is the most likely cause, any other suggestions?</P>
Secondly, the damn whining whistling noise is still going on when the car is running. Not all the time, happened last winter too. Almost like a water pump, but I turned all the accessories and the power steering pump is the only one that feels wierd. Now, WHAT THE HELL IS THE PROBLEM, where's MD when you need him? It could be the IAC something else, but I have no idea HELP PLEASE. </P>

one the throw out bearing usually sounds like a bird chirping all the damm time untill you press in the clutch.
when its cold you get grinding...are you sure its the starter? it could be you have poor oil circulation if its coming from the motor..try some syn. oil. [ so it coats the cyl. walls so its easier to start up]
my car has a whistling now my battery is gone and my alt. is struggling to keep up. so it whistles since there is a more of a load on it then before.

to me. your problem sounds like your water pump. only becasue you hear it when the car is cold. and once the thermistate (if thats how you spell it) opens, after the car is warmed up there isn't as much pressure on the water pump. thats just a thought, i would really have to hear it for myself, to really help you out.

I already use synthetic oil, and I turned the water pump, It feels fine, its either that or the power steering pump. Any more diagnosis hints on the whistling?

Check your serpintine belt, make sure its not dry rotted or anything. Do not put any oils or hinge grease to fix the belt if it is that way. It will dry rot the belt and also make it slip. But a squel from the engine is usually a belt. The best thing to do is open the hood while it is runing and put your hear under the hood and listen from where it could be coming from. That could be where the squealling is coming from.</P>
The grinding noise when you start could be fluids pumping into your engine..... do a coolant exchange for the antifreeze check your oil levels, and diagnos your fuel pump. Even if it is not your antifreeze change that once a year because they acid coroads yours container, take care of that mustang. Your oil levels like he said your engine needs lubrication and if it is dry then your going to have a friction grinding noise. Some Mustangs, I know both of mine take a little to start the engine. Usually replacing a fuel pump even if not needed will help with any future starting.</P>
Pull a spark plug out and make sure it is not burnt out. But usually if it is the clutch it is loud reason being that your clutch compartment is located right by your feet. When you change out mostly anything for your clutch they go under the cluster panel by your feet or under the car but going under the car is even harder being that the tranny is there thats a difficult job. But that is where it is located. You just have to play it by ear and listen carefully. have a friend lay on the break and clutch. If it is a constant grinding noise as you drive I would check out your rotors.</P>
Try starting it over and over again, but I think I might know what your talking about it only happens once, doesn't happen but maybe the first time you start it the day or if you let it set for awhile it will do that but it does not make the sound all the time.....? If I could actually hear the noise myself I might be able to tell you what is wrong. It is a lot harder trying to explain to someone what the noise is then actually hearing it yourself. </P>
If you have a Sears Automotive or a favorite garage you go to go to them and ask them to test drive with you and figure out what could be going wrong. And don't be to proud to do that because if something is wrong with yourbaby and you don't know what it is it you rather be able to have someone who would know find it out and fix it for you then try and figure it out yourself and keep riding on it and end up wearing something down where it is irreplaceable then taking care of it asap.</P><edited><editID>Cdprowl</editID><editDate>37968.8255324074</editDate></edited>

Yea, it happends only when I start it the first time (when its cold) in the morning. And will be fine the rest of the day even when I start it again. </P>
Thanks, I'll look at the belts, but I just put a gator back ona year ago, and I'll get the coolant changed and such asap, I need that one.</P><edited><editID>95Stealth302</editID><editDate>37968.8237962963</editDate></edited>
