input shaft bearing
So in taking apart my transmission i have come to removel of the input shaft. while fighting to get this off i noticed there are metal chunks visible through the slot on the meshing ring. now i cannot remove the input shaft because of the metal chunks wedging themselves into the cracks....anyone ever had this happen...if so ideas?

Never had it happen, but I imagine... yank harder. Not gonna hurt anything that isn't getting replaced anyway. I've never taken apart a tranny so don't go yellin at me if this advice breaks it. Matter of fact, let someone else guide the way lol.

yeah i have found the notched area in the smaller gear... i believe one or some of the larger bearings (steel cylinders) have self destructed thats go between the input shaft and rest of the gears...is this possible? again i can see small pieces of something that is clearly not supposed to be broken and lodged in the manner they are.
ill try and get a pic

start at the bottom of the picture, above the lowest gear( which is trashed) there is a notch in the meshing gear above it, in the notch is where you can see the small bits that i think are holding the shaft on

Looks like the rollers out of the bearing. Been a while since I tore a t5 down but once you take the throwout bearing retainer off shouldn't the input shaft slide out? I know you have to do something funny with the output shaft to get it out but I cant remember exactly what it was.

you have to rotate the shaft so a cut slot lines up with the counter shaft. i have done this but it would appear to me that the blown up bearings are jambing the shaft in place... i may be wrong but this thing is frozen on tiiight. http://www.astroperformance.com/prod...roducts_id/690
this is currently my next option if this transmission cant be fixed, anyone know anything about it??? i know i will need at least a new third gear for the main input shaft and the counter shaft gears plus the rebuild kit is already probably close to 500

yikes. that thing went boom, eh?
We've had a couple guys here that used astro trannys. I'm not sure if either post anymore but I don't recall them having any issues. They've been around for quite some time(astro).

yeah there as very little fluid in the trans when i took it off so im sure that played a role. for a grand i guess a rebuild with some sort of warrenty seems like a half decent deal, i was hoping to rebuild mine but if the input shaft or any other part besides a gear or 2 i think its just gunna cost as much anyway
