Default i keep going thru starter solonids...

When i first got car it needed one. You would turn key and it would crank n crank even after i took key out. Would have to unplug battery to shut off. Connect cable to battery n car would turn on with no key in it but starter would still cycle. Well replaced it and ran fine. Well its done this 3 more times n i thoight nothing of it. Well it did it thismorning and i carry extra now so i jus removed battery cable n replaced soloniod n works perfect now again. What could it be to cause them to blow out time and time again?

try taking off all the cables between solenoid and starter clean all the ends inspect them . same for the battery side and all the the grounds. Sounds like you have a bad connection someplace that is putting a big strain on the solenoid and burning it up. Also while your at it have the starter load tested to see just what its drawing. If its bad it will draw way to much amperage. Also how is the ignition switch itself ? Not the key cylinder but the switch in the column . Ive had them cause wierd problems like that too.

Likely not the solenoids, but the ignition switch.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 1989 MUSTANG NOTCHBACK.. IF IT CRANKS AND CRANKS JUST HIT IT WITH SOMETHING IT WILL RELEASE THE SWITCH INSIDE. THIS DOES NOT SOVLE THE PROBLEM BUT IT WILL HELP.. I WENT THOUGHT ALL THE WIRES ON THE SOLENOID FOUND OUT THAT THE GUY THAT OWNED IT BEFORE ME RAN A WIRE FOR GAUGE ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR THAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I TOOK THIS WIRE OFF AND FOUND A POWER WIRE INSIDE FOR THE GAUGE THEN HAD NO PROBLEM AFTER THAT..BUT ONCE THE SOLENOID GETS STUCK LIKE THAT IT IS GOOD TO REPLACE IT.
