ect ... sombody correct me if im wrong

So Im having trouble with my egr not opening . I know for a fact that the egr itself is good the position sensor tests good just put a new egr vacuum solenoid on it. I get code for egr not opening and engine is pinging even at only 10btc.
So ive gone through the sensors that will disable the egr and the maf tests good the iat tests good however i dont get a return reference from the ect . The input to it is right around 4.6 volts but I get a return of 0v at any temp. The fan still comes on when it gets up to temp . Maybe im not back probing the ect correctly but I should see a return of around 3.0v at ambient temps or a cold start if its around 80 degrees outside correct? Also I kinda thougth that the fan wouldnt run at all if the ect was bad or it would run all the time like it does with the ect unplugged. I may be thinking wrong here . I cant check the ohms on the ect cause my digital mm quit reading ohms for some reason and my analog isnt designed for that .

Ok well Think i got it figured out anyways . duuhhhh i was using engine ground when i needed to measure the voltage between the referance and return wires .

On another note the temp at fully warmed up is only about 160 so im assuming someone has either put a 160 thermostat in it and its not getting up to full temp . or the ect is wrong. Haha i refuse to buy a new ect untill i let it cool off and check that stat.

put a 180 in so ecm will operate in closed loop

dawson1112 07-12-2012 03:14 AM

yep i was correct there was a 160 in it. I put a 185 in it Egr is still throwing code for not opening.
wth is up guess im gonna pull the inner fender cover again and check the voltage to the evr and ground back to the pcm. If im not mistaken the pcm applys ground when egr is needed. The only other code i get is to do with the smog pump crap but its deleted and really shouldnt effect the egr operation.

check the evr and vac supply to it

yea i just put a new evr on it and ran all new vac lines . I was pretty sure it was a vac problem as some one had replaced them with the clear rubber tubing like you would use on a fish tank:icon_werd:.... So i replaced all of it with some good stock vac lines i got from a parts car. I was sure that was the problem but nope.. Another weird problem is when it is idleing it will idle nice and smooth for a bit then get all jerky then idle smooth again when warming up. Once its up to temp it idles perfect all day long. Ive gone over every sensor on the car from the tps maf egr position incoming air iac all test good.
Im leaning towards a slight intake leak someplace maybe. Possibly even a bad oring on one of the injectors.
