Tune up on a 5.0
Now that the focus all but gone and I will have the car in about a week or 2 what are some good things to check and replace on the car. I plan on doing a tune-up since it's used and who knows about the past history. I'm already sold on Mobil 1 oil and a K&N oil filter with about a quart of lucas oil additive. I plan on running a purolater fuel filter. I'll probably buy a K&N air filter. What about plugs and wires? what kind of plugs aer you running? Anything else i should do that i did'nt list that you can think of?

RE: Tune up on a 5.0
id go with $45 ford racing wires. im currently running bosch platinum +4 plugs, but i got them for nothing, and at $7 apiece, they didnt really do anything. id invest in not only a k&n filter, but a cold air intake. then (if its old enough) bump up the ignition a bit.
the best way for u to gain noticeable power is to drive a four cyl car for a few months then go back to the stang. trust me, it really works!!

RE: Tune up on a 5.0
check to make sure the timing is set at 10*. if its not then that will make a huge difference unless you want to run premium then you can bump your timing to around 14*. its free hp if your willing to pay the extra 10 cents a gallon.

RE: Tune up on a 5.0
ive got about 14* and i have no trouble with regular. another easy trick is a new 180* thermostat. it makes the engine run cooler. but the timing is just up to u. each car is different and u whould start at 10 and work up or down depending on how well u want the car to run or how much power u want.

RE: Tune up on a 5.0
its a 5.0 so yeah, it should be just like this: loosen the dist holddown (make sure you have a timing light hooked up before this), then turn the dist (as long as you can see the timing marks) forward, which maybe left or right, cant remember. only go till the motor lightly pings, then back off a bit. then tighten the holddown, and youre set.

RE: Tune up on a 5.0
for a full tune up you need to get these items
cap and rotor ( either Accel or MSD bc they have bass terminal that conductor better then stock)
wires (either MSD super conductor of taylors they have the least resistance which means more spark)
plugs (autolite #25 they just run better in our cars)
Replace the PCV valve and screen
if you have mass air clean the MAF with carb cleaner and a Q-tip but be careful with the wires.

How much will all those parts cost?
