Default Car stuck cranking

i go to start my mustang (89 lx) when i do it gets stuck CRANKING even after i remove key,i have to unhook the battery to get it to stop turning over. Any idea what this could be?

Not the solenoid, its the ignition switch on the bottom of the steering column. Solenoid can't switch without power from it.

Ok ill try that..thats what i was thinking it was cause i put a new solenoid on it afew months back so i kinda figure it was not that.

my 79 does same thing sometimes. put in new ignition switch and key tumbler and starter and starter solonoid.. fried starter once. I'm baffled now. don't know what to replace next.

Now that you mentioned it i do remember it was the slide stuck in my ignition but i also needed a solenoid. sorry that was 8yrs ago.

you refering to that rod in the steering column next to the ignition switch. I was thinking a bad connection with that.

Had the same problem with my 79 a few weeks back. It was the the ignition switch, but to I also changed the key tumbler as well which probably wasn't necessary.

Its probably the ignition switch had a friend with a 89 lx that was doing the same thing.

keep in mind that starter solenoids CAN stick if they have some age. ask for a diode supressed solenoid at ur parts house.
