Exclamation 85 gt dies in gear

I have a 1985 mustang gt with cfi. Every time I put it in gear it dies out. I've checked the egress. Redone the vaccuum lines and still haven't fixed it. I can't get it started long.enough to run codes. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? I was thinking maybe the fast idle rod and choke.

I would also like to keep it cfi if possible. I already have another 85 that has been converted to a four barrel setup and don't want another.

CFI engines don't have an IAC, they have a bypass valve regulated by a relay.

Can the torque converter be locking up? Havent messed with any of the old non-electric trannies to be sure.

You are both correct. i was clueless about the iac, but as to the cfi, all autos were and manuals were carbed. i still have yet to figure out the problem. i dont want to do a carb conversion i want to keep the cfi seeing as how i already have a carbed auto 85.
