tach quits when i turn on headligts

Default tach quits when i turn on headligts
my tach works fine until I turn the headlights on then it quits. turn lights off the tach works again. sure the wiring is messed up but anyone else have this problem. 79 mustang/302.

Tach is operated by a direct feed to the ground circuit of the coil. I doubt anyone has spliced into it. I'd wager that your main grounds(engine block/chassis) need fixing/cleaning.
