88 gt 5.0 keeps snapping clutch cables
I have a 1988 gt 5.0 with a T5 5 speed. I noticed awhile back that the clutch pedal suddenly became stiff as heck and then a few days later the cable snapped. I installed a new cable, made adjustments to the firewall adjuster and the cable was fine for a few weeks. Then as I was driving I noticed the pedal slowly getting sloppy until I could push all the way too the floor and the clutch would not disengage. I lifted the car and inspected and saw that the cable had unraveled at the shift fork, so another broken cable. I then decided to drop the transmission and replace the clutch and inspect all components. The only thing I forgot to check was the pivot ball and shift fork itself but they did not catch my eye as needing replacement. So after I threw everything back together with new clutch, throwout bearing, and cable, adjusted everything again, and the car seemed fine for a day or so then the stiff pedal came back and yet again snapped the cable. The cable is routed running along the oil pan with no sharp bends or anything that should cause it to snap, so my question is could a worn pivot ball or shift fork cause these problems? I mean, the pedal gets so stiff your practically throwing all your weight into it to shift, then it snaps. This problem just throws me through a loop because i will have awesome smooth clutch for awhile then it gets stiff and snaps my cables. I really don't know where else to check, so please if anyone has encountered this please help me out!!!
