look at this gunk on my lower intake! normal?
some of you may recall im in the process of taking apart my 95 gt engine. you might also recall i dont know wtf im doing. just figuring things out and learning as i go along.
anyway, im almost done with the tear down (just need to get the distributor and heads off)
below are pics of the lower intake. does anything look abnormal? seems to me the gunk build up in the center and corners is not normal.
also, aside from trying to find the cause of this gunk (if it is in fact abnormal), how do i clean this thing (and the rest of my parts)? parts cleaner? brake cleaner? carb cleaner? something else/better options?
can somebody tell me what the ports in the red circles are for? one of them actually goes someplace (the drivers side, theres an opening in side the port), the other port goes no where, its just a small cavity.
thanks

Thats not really that bad. I had to dig the crap out with a spoon. It was about 1.5 inches thick and had the same consistancy as dirt. I used an industrial grade degreaser to clean everything up. Ports are for coolant flow.

suppose i had this 3 gallon bucket. would i just drop the part in there and let it sit, then reuse the 3gallons of cleaner over and over for other stuff until it gets un-useable, or am i supposed to take the 3gallons and fill a spray bottle or something?

no reason,,,,,if it were stock I'd say scrap it instead of cleaning but since it's a gt-40, it's worth cleaning, all the sludge build up can be indicative of lack of oil changes and or a pcv system no working to well to vent vapors

i will guess the pvc wasnt functioning correctly at some point then
looking at where the pvc goes, it looks like it might have been partially blocked off by the gasket caulk material stuff
