Default RED vs. BLUE locktight on my headers

I am replacing my header gaskets with Copper headers gaskets on my BBK headers. I have to always tighten the bolts or I blow the gaskets. I looked into the Stage 8 locking header bolts. Is that really worth the money. I have had buddies tell me to use BLUE lock tight and swear by it. Then I hear you use the RED lock tight for High heat applications.

Any Suggestions!

if your having that problem with always having to tighten your bolts then the bolt holes in your heads are being stripped out. Also it really depends on what type of headers you have, long tube or shorties, if you have long tubes and your starter goes bad then you have to break the lock tite and unbolt your headers to pull your starter, thats why after my starter went bad, i went to shorties.

i used blue on my bolts bc the blue is just for vibration so the bolts dont back out the red is used if you dont want the bolts to move ever

the locking bolts are worth the money if you are worried about breaking a bolt or need to take the headers back off for some reason

Well I went ahead and ordered the Ford Racing Stage 8 Locking header bolts from summit racing today. I pulled out one of the header bolts that is holding the headers on right now and noticed there is mabey 2 or 3 threads holding it in. The bolt is Just to short I believe 3/4" Went around town looking for some grade 8 bolts and some lock washers. I was going to get some 1" header bolts at kragen but they came in packs of 12 for ten bucks. So I would have to buy two packs. 20 bucks. Figured its better just to spend 20 more and get the good stuff. So it will now have Copper gaskets and locking header bolts. I dont think I will ever have to deal with it again. I think with this car im going to stick with the "Cheap things aren't good and Good things arent Cheap." Moto.

you can also use RTV on header bolts to help hold them in

be sure to tighten them in a cris-cros pattern. if you tighten down one side all the way then just goto the next bolt and the next bolt you will not have the same pressure on all bolts and will not tighten down collectly. also red locktite is stronger then blue if i am correct.

I was told by three trusted sorces. NEVER EVER put lock tight in there. Especially RED. If you ever have to pull them out of there you risk breaking them. Then you have more trouble! I really hate surprises like that! And it just feels better knowing that I wont have to deal with this again!

i wouldnt use locktite. just apply alittle RTV on the threads and it will prevent backing out
