High 11s - What engine?

At this point I'm not concerned about details of intake, exhaust, fuel or tranny.. I'll make those things good enough to support the goal.

So considering a daily driver, 93 octane, 4.10s & ET streets w/4-5k launches....
Is it possible to have a full weight 89GT go high 11s on a NA 306? For example maybe a DSS short block and AFR 165 renegade heads (custom cam suited for smoothness at 1700rpms / daily driving)?

If not.. what ETs will a daily driver 306 NA engine be capable of?
A 331?
A 347?

Thanks

here are some examples of well thought out 302 combos and results, however don't be fooled by the gt-40 headed engine, it has lots of port work on the heads and nothing is perfectly stock as when the factory put it on, it also runs e-85, with combos it's more so the combination of parts and attention to detail to run the numbers..........if you want a bolt together high 11 sec ride a 347 is the easiest route, IMO if you build a 347 and it runs 12's, you have a piss poor combo, tune off or simply can't drive.......or you built it to do that.....but every 302 combo I ever built that I just threw together with ots parts was capable of mid to low 12's, so just think out the combo.

What he said. Bigger is always better. But a well built 302 will hit 11s no problem if you bolt on the right parts..

Thanks, excellent threads! I'm only 1/2 way through them but am learning. Thus far sounds like a A5 would suit me well.

not sure if it's the a-5 gear cuts or the g-force ones but a friend of mine had one or the other, can't remember and due to the helical cut of the gears they whine, I didn't like it.

My 369 (4.155 bore by 3.4 stroke) dynoed at 425 rwhp, and has run 11.6 at 121, with a mild street cam, 223/227 duration at .050, and AFR 185 comp heads. The T-5 transmission behind it is not doing so well...

Yeah I've read that. Doesn't bother me. I almost always have the windows down and ear plugs in. I don't even bother with the radio. And, the new rear control arms amplify the rear gear whine.

I had a buddy who ran 11.90s at full weight (other than wheels and tires) on the stock bottom end. So yes, it's possible. But it's all about traction. That's where www.uprproducts.com comes in.

I'd go with a 347 and a bigger head than a 165 however, something like a 185 minimum.
I also can tell that there are a lot of places besides D.S.S. that can do the machine work and build them.
BTW, why can't you put it togather yourself?

I can. Last engine I built was 800hp @ the crank. Livernois did the machining, Fox lake did the porting, and I did the rest including the DP N20 and tuning with SCT pro racer. It took too much of my time and money. I really don't want to go down that road again. This time I'd like to just buy a decent quality short block, the heads, studs, and screw it together.
