I've been told that mechs are bad off the line and a vac is better because it supplies when its needed. I can understand once off the line where a dp would be better, so there must be a fine line.

Again it all depends on the set-up. I really hate general statements like that because they are only half true. I pulled a 1.55 60' all the time in one of my cars with a DP, I would not call that lazy. Most times people just slap a big ol' double pumper on thier 4000lb stock gear stock converter land barge and wonder why it's a turd, so the DP gets a bad rap, when it's not the carb but the bone head who put it on.
