Default Cam Install

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I recently purchased a 1990 GT. I've been lurking around learning the upgrades and reading a lot of how-to's. I recently tore into my engine and started upgrading everything but the bottom end. When I got to installing the cam, I didn't know that the crank spun 2 times compared to 1 time on the cam. So in reality istead of being TDC on the number one piston, it was technically BDC. However the dots on the gears were lined up where they need to be though. Question is will this hurt anything?

as long as the #1 piston is at the top of its stroke your fine . The cam is what determines weather its compression or exhaust. So as long as the Marks are lined up correctly you will be on the compression stroke.

I wondered this same thing when I installed my cam. As long as the #1 cylinder was at TDC and you lined up the dots on the crank/cam gear (Crank being at 12 o'clock and cam being at 6 o'clock) then you're good.

The crank and cam gears can only bolt on one way. turn your crank until you can put the crank gear on with the dot straight up, and then turn the cam until the dot will be straight down. Then just put the gears and chain back on. When you bolt your heads back on, the pushrods will have all your valves open/closed as they need to be at TDC

Thanks guys. I got the front of the motor all put back together and something just made me think about that. I searched around for info on that to no avail so I figured I'd just ask the guys that know for sure.
