quick questions

ok i want to buy some forged dome pistons to bump on my compression to get a few extra ponies when i go to put my cam, roller rockers, timing chain, vavle springs and new intake in. so my question is i was talking to someone about it and they asked me what kind of gas i was going to use cause they said the higher compression for a street car isn't good for it and they also said that i would need heads for it is this true? Is it worth to just run the pistons or should i just forget about the and if it is worth does anyone know where i can get some forged dome pistons to run like 10.5.

thanks for the help in advance

RE: quick questions

it would be easier to shave a little off the bottom of the heads.

you will need to run a higher octane to keep from detonating.

i run nothing but 93 through it is that enough? so would running dome pistons be a bad idea with stock heads?

RE: quick questions

your wasting your money on 93 octane. it does more harm than good if you don't need it.
(advance timing, increased compression, power adder)

i don't see why you would want to change out only your pistons on a stock motor. if you were gonna rebuild the whole rotating assembly and than build up the upper end, yeah, but otherwise no.

if you really want to increase compression, shave some off the bottom of your heads. (machine shop will have to do it)

i would do other stuff first though. i don't think you will gain a lot of hp.

RE: quick questions

my timing is advanced to 15 and how much do u think it would cost for them to shave the bottom. just an guesstimate

RE: quick questions

where did you read that mine says 87

the dome pistons at your level of hp is really not needed ,put the added $$$ in the heads where your engine can benifit...today's gas sux as you can have a 400hp engine run on cheap 89
