my 88 was the same way when i got it. needed a new cap and rotor with plugs. and youll be fine

Check your T.P.S.That sounds like a throttle positioning sensor or a IAC idle air control valve.While your at it id check my EGR valve not saying its the EGR but better safe than sorry.But definately test your TPS i just dealt with this on an 88.
