Default Lowering an 1989

I've got 17X9's on an 89' GT. The tires are 235/40/17. It looks like I've got about 1 to 1 1/2 inches to lower without rubbing. How much have you guys been successful in lowering? Thanks.

i dropped mine about 3/4". not too much, but enough to make a massive difference. plus for the steering geometry to be really correct, u should replace the rack bushings with offset ones. this corrects the drop. i havent put mine in yet, but i know that i have wicked bad oversteer. i got the suspension tecniques springs from jegs. most everyones springs lower about 1 1/2". eibachs are nice, but for 90 or so bucks over the STs, i didnt think they were worth it.---to me. im really cheap. and didnt even have the money i spent.

Thanks. I'm looking to lower about 1 inch so I should be fine. Like you implied, that should fill up the wheel well.
