starter wont fit!! why!?!

Default starter wont fit!! why!?!

we just got our tranny back fully rebuilt 1988 ford mustang 5.0 lx hatch. we pulled the starter off ages ago but its the same starter we left in the car (took long to get the tranny low funds) anyone know why the starter doesnt fit now? it makes no sence to me....

thats the thin metal gasket like the bell housing right? not that i know of. all part are the same. but it just doesnt fit? its so weird

its been rebuilt, hmmm maybe thats it? but why would it be changed? still the same borg warner t5 tranny just had it rebuilt from tehachapi transmissons

when you say it wont fit do you mean the bolts don't line up any more or it wont go far enough into the bellhousing ?

no the bolts line up but the starter does fit in the bell housing and hits in a few places. but if its the original part wtf is up with that??

i kno on my old fox it had a t5 and i bought a new starter and it wouldnt fit so i took it back and compared them and the old one was grinded down on the outside of the starter where it goes in the bell housing

what are shims? 0.0 and yea we tried griding it. but the thing is if it fitted before why wouldnt it fit now? nothings changed
