Installing steering shaft back correctly during rack and pinion replacement
Hey guys, Iam swapping out my rack and pinion. Everything is going back on and I wanna make sure I instal the steering shaft back correctly. I took it apart at the rag joint area. IN the old rack the bottom splined shaft had a flat edge on the opposite side of the new lower shaft in the new rack and pinion. When I bolt the joint back together does this matter? I can still put it together, it just seems the flat side is 180degrees off.

before you took the old rack out did you have the steering wheel straight? if so, take the new rack and spin the shaft so you max it out in one direction. now spin it in the opposite direction and count how many full turns it makes. now divide that in half and thats your center point. it should match right up to steering shaft now.

well i had the wheel straight, but i think i turned it to get to the bolts on the the steering shaft. i didnt think anything of it. now i have bolted on the new rack and i saw the how the shaft was positioned in the old rack. idk if the new rack isnt centered, or if it is. in any case the wheel is now straight, and the rack is bolted on. i guess ill have to pull rack back off and do as u stated to check. unless the new racks come centered?
any suggestions on how to turn the shaft, it seemed to be in there pretty tight
